wheresjessieb — Hog Island Oyster Farm

And if you go on Thursdays, you can shuck ‘em yourself 😜 (yes, it’s less expensive) @hogislandoysterco is perhaps the most iconic oyster joint in the greater Bay Area. There are now several locations but the OG, water-side Boathouse in Marshall (Tomales Bay) has the best ambiance IMO. It’s absolutely worth the 1.5-hour drive for a day trip if you love oysters. For an extra bit of fun, come on a Thursday for their Shuck-It-Yourself days. They’ll provide the shucker, a towel, and (ofc) the oysters, and you get to spend an afternoon perfecting your technique. Never shucked before? No worries, staff are happy to give a demo. But if that sounds like more work than fun, you can always order a round of shucked oysters (raw or BBQ—I personally loved the nori butter BBQ ones!) and some of their preserves to munch on. Tbh, there’s never a bad day or way to experience Hog Island. 🦪 HOW TO VISIT HOG ISLAND IN MARSHALL ✦ Shuck-It-Yourself Thursdays from 11am - 4pm — first come, first serve only, no reservations ✦ Oysters start at $22 for a dozen if you shuck it yourself; $45 if shucked for you ✦ Open every day, 9am - 5pm ✦ Pro tip: Bring a cooler.
