A Day Out in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 Chow Kit has always felt like a neighbourhood of contrasts. Old shophouses sit beneath the monorail tracks, busy market lanes meet modern cafés, and familiar views of the KL skyline appear between the buildings. The area was named after Loke Chow Kit, a prominent businessman and philanthropist from the early days of Kuala Lumpur. Over the years, the neighbourhood grew into an important commercial district, best known for its traditional market, textile shops and lively streets. I started the day walking around Chow Kit Road before heading into the market, where the sounds, colours and everyday interactions offered a glimpse into a side of KL that still feels deeply local. From there, the walk slowly shifted towards Jalan Doraisamy, where restored heritage shophouses now house cafés, restaurants and creative spaces.
