getlostwithliam — Kahurangi National Park

Don’t wake the Balrog… Share this with someone who loves a good hidden gem ✨ Tucked away in the Kahurangi National Park near Karamea, The Ōparara Arches are quite literally the stuff of legends. Walking through the Moria Gate Arch, you’ll understand exactly why it was named after the great dwarven kingdom. 🥾 The walk to Moria Gate is a gentle 1.2km (0.7 mile) loop through lush beech forest. If you’re heading to the massive Ōparara Arch (the largest limestone arch in the Southern Hemisphere!), it’s a separate 2km return walk. Both are relatively easy, though the road to get there is a winding, unpaved logging track so make sure you take it slow! Follow @getlostwithliam for more off-the-beaten-path magic 🌿
