Wanna come on a hike with me? Too bad, you’re coming ⬇️ 📌 Save this for your NZ bucket list! If you’re looking for the most beautiful alpine lake in Fiordland, this is it. Lake Marian is a stunning glacial lake tucked into a hanging valley, surrounded by dramatic snow-capped peaks. It’s a bit of a climb to get there, but every step is worth it once you break through the bushline. 🗓️ Best for a clear day! The track can get very muddy and slippery after rain, especially the rocky sections near the top. Give yourself about 3 hours return to enjoy the scenery without rushing. If you’re brave enough, bring your swimwear for a very (very) refreshing alpine dip! 🚗 Located off the Hollyford Road, about a 1.5-hour drive from Te Anau. Keep an eye out for the Marian Falls, it’s a spectacular series of waterfalls that you can see just 10 minutes into the walk. There is plenty of parking at the trailhead, but it’s a popular spot, so aim for an early start. 💫 Gear up properly! This is a proper backcountry hike with lots of roots and rocks, so sturdy hiking boots are a must. Make sure to pack insect repellent, the sandflies at the lake are wild, and bring a warm layer as the temperature drops quickly in the shadows of the mountains.
