: It rained the entire time we were in Mittenwald — but maybe that only added to its charm. Situated in the Bavarian Alps, this little storybook town felt even more magical under grey skies, with painted houses glistening from the drizzle and mountains hiding mysteriously in the mist. Mittenwald is famous for its Lüftlmalerei — colorful frescoes that turn ordinary facades into open-air art galleries. Walking down Obermarkt feels like wandering through a painting, each house telling a story of tradition and folklore. And then there’s the music — this town has been known as the “Village of Violins” since the 1600s. The Violin Making Museum keeps that heritage alive, where you can see how string instruments have been crafted for centuries. Even in the rain, it felt like a fairytale world you never want to leave. Definitely worth visiting when in Bavaria, Germany. #mittenwald #bavaria #bavariagermany #visitgermany #germanytravel #storybooktown #fairytalevillage
