Chocolate tomato croissant? Buttered popcorn morning bun? If you want to try these clever combos, head to @quailandcondor’s beautiful new space in Healdsburg. Quail & Condor opened back in 2020 in a small space a few blocks from the Plaza, but just moved into a huge new 3,650-square-foot space just next door—finally solving the line-out-the-door problem the original tiny shop was famous for. The move also came with a bigger breakfast and lunch menu, including sourdough waffles, baked eggs in garlic yogurt, and a Turkish breakfast spread (pictured). If the creative pastry flavors aren’t enough of a reason to visit, let me tell you, the food is goooood. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Owners Melissa and Sean McGaughey are SingleThread alums, and the bakery was named one of the best in the U.S. by the New York Times and a James Beard Award semifinalist. I visited on a recent day trip to Sonoma and think it’s an excellent way to start the day on your next day trip or weekend getaway to Sonoma/Healdsburg. NEED TO KNOW
