I couldn’t believe it… ❤️‍🩹 Reynisfjara Beach in Iceland has changed completely 🇮🇸 Last year, I was walking on endless black volcanic sand. Today, large parts of that iconic beach are simply gone. What happened? Over the past months, powerful Atlantic storms, rising sea levels and extreme wave erosion have dramatically reshaped the coastline. Reynisfjara was never a “static” beach — it was formed by volcanic eruptions and constantly shaped by the ocean. But this time, the erosion was massive. Huge sections of the black sand were washed away, cliffs collapsed, and the landscape many of us knew no longer exists in the same form. That’s the thing about nature in Iceland — it’s raw, unpredictable and always in motion. The name “Reynisfjara Beach” referred to that wide, dramatic black shoreline we all recognized from photos. But when the shoreline itself changes this drastically, the “iconic version” of it — the one that made it famous worldwide — no longer exists in the same way. Nature doesn’t preserve landmarks for us. It reshapes them. And witnessing that is both heartbreaking… and humbling. Have you ever returned to a place that felt completely different? 🌊 #reynisfjara #iceland

Jagged rocks stand jutting out of the sea just off this black sand beach with basalt formations.
