I often hear people talk about the ppali ppali (hurry hurry) culture in Korea. I think what they really mean to say is Seoul culture. Sure half of the population of Korea lives in Seoul and the surrounding area, but you leave that and suddenly things slow down. After moving to Jeju Island, we’ve realized that we shouldn’t expect our food to arrive at our table shortly after ordering like in Seoul. It’ll take a bit so best get comfortable and have a conversation. Just about every village here is a “silver zone” which means the majority of people are elderly, so trust me when I tell you no one is moving quickly. Not to mention they walk in the middle of the road half of the time so we’re not driving quickly either. In Jeju, life seems to follow natures rhythm much more closely than in the city and so we rest. Things close in the evening and don’t stay open nearly as late so if you won’t get there today, there’s no rush, just go tomorrow. Suffice to say, that ppali ppali culture might not be what people really think. It’s certainly not everywhere. Do you live in Korea? What do you think? #빨리빨리 #ppalippali #lifeinkorea #foreignerinkorea #lifeinjeju #jeju #slowlife #jejuisland #제주 #제주일상 #제주라이프
