yooinkyoto — Tōfuku-ji Temple

For over 400 years, this temple has welcomed summer with bellflowers. _ Although Tentoku-in, a sub-temple of Tofuku-ji, was once lost to war, it was rebuilt—and for more than four centuries, the tradition of admiring bellflowers each summer has continued. Even after being destroyed, it was rebuilt. And with it, this quiet beauty has been passed down through generations. As I stood before these bellflowers this summer, I couldn’t help but wonder… What did the people of Kyoto, 400 years ago, feel as they looked upon the very same flowers? To admire the flowers is also to feel the weight of history. Perhaps that, too, is part of the beauty of Kyoto. 📍Tentoku-in Temple, Kyoto #tofukuji #kyotojapan #quietluxury #SeasonalBeauty #japaneseaesthetics
