Your full day trip guide below ⬇️ 📌 Save this if you love wild adventures full of sighting rare native species! I joined @icebreakernz to celebrate their 30th birthday with a community hike out at Tiritiri Matangi — and it was the perfect way to mark the milestone. We explored this predator-free island with an awesome bunch of people, spotted rare birds like takahē (who were once thought extinct!), and learned how this special place has been rewilded from farmland to a native sanctuary. 📅 Ferries run year-round from Auckland’s Viaduct. Weekends and holidays book out fast — especially in spring and summer! ⛴️ It’s about 75–80 minutes by ferry and costs $95 return. You can explore solo or add a guided walk for $10 — we had a great guide who brought the island’s stories to life! 🧥 No shops or rubbish bins (so pack out your trash!). Bring your lunch, plenty of water, and layer up (I stayed comfy all day in my trusty Icebreaker merino). Tracks range from easy strolls to longer bush loops. The lighthouse is a must-visit — it’s also where the takahē like to hang out!
