I don’t hate the UK but… British winters were quietly breaking me. The 3:30pm darkness. The endless grey skies. The constant rain. That heavy, flat feeling you can’t quite explain. I *love* the UK. It’s home. From Spring through to Christmas I genuinely think it’s one of the best places in the world to live. The long summer evenings in the countryside. Crisp autumn’s in London. The cozy build up to Christmas. Unbeatable. But the first quarter of the year has really affected my mental health for the past few years now. Genuine SAD. Low mood. Zero motivation. Feeling so poorly. And it was more than just mentally - I’m coeliac, which means I struggle with vitamin D absorption. So when you combine that with barely seeing the sun for weeks… my body was basically shutting down every winter. This wasn’t just “winter blues”. It felt physical. So this year, because we’re self-employed and on the working holiday visa, we decided to structure our year differently. Instead of forcing ourselves through another UK winter, we’re spending it in sunny Sydney - working remotely, living slower, getting actual sunlight - and then heading home to London in Spring. And honestly? It’s been a game changer. I’d rather: 🌧️ Leave when the UK feels its hardest 🇬🇧 Come home in Spring and fall back in love with it the way it deserves. This isn’t about hating the UK. It’s about understanding your body, your mind, and building a life around what makes you feel good. Do you agree… or are you a die-hard winter lover? ❄️ If you’re curious about what living in Australia on a WHV is actually like - costs, work, lifestyle, the real pros and cons - follow along because I’m sharing the whole experience 🇦🇺🐨 #SADUK #RainUK #BritishWeather #WHV #movetoaustralia
