: Why does Palo Alto, of all the Bay Area cities, have so many beautiful fall trees? The answer may surprise you, but it makes perfect sense: Palo Alto has been recognized as a “Tree City USA” and is home to over 60,000 trees! In fact, the city’s name itself comes from a tree: El Palo Alto, a towering 110-foot, 1,100-year-old coast redwood. While I have many favorite streets in Palo Alto, these two take the top spot. I have one more favorite street that’s just started to change colors! It’s lined with maple trees that all turn a brilliant red by the end of November. If you’re visiting early and want to see that street as well, just type “red” and I’ll send you the location. It’s as beautiful as these two, or maybe even better! If you’re visiting, please be mindful of the residents in these neighborhoods and make sure to park and walk responsibly.
