: The total bill was around $287,000. 🤯 (Not $200K***: $200K was just for the hospital stay.) When I was pregnant, I spent hours searching for what it is like to give birth at Stanford. Now that I’ve been through it myself, I finally have the answer. Because I had an induced labor, my stay was longer than a typical delivery. But even knowing that, nothing prepared me for seeing the itemized bill afterward. The Labor & Delivery room alone was almost $69,000 for the night. My postpartum room was close to $50,000. By the time everything was added up, the total bill was around $287,000. 🤯 ($200K was just for the hospital stay.) This didn’t include the doctors’ visits and several other charges that were billed separately. And yet, thanks to insurance, our out-of-pocket cost was $0. However, the nurses and doctors were so caring and patient. They kept on checking on me constantly, answering every question, helping me through labor, and later helping us figure out life with a brand-new baby. They made those first few days feel so much less scary. Also, I had fully prepared myself for bland hospital meals, but Stanford completely surprised me. Everything was made fresh, there were so many options, and I genuinely looked forward to ordering meals. My husband and I still talk about it. Some of those meals were better than restaurants we willingly pay for. Dare I say… Bib Gourmand level good. Bringing our baby into the world was one of the biggest moments of our lives, and I’m grateful we were surrounded by such an incredible team.
